Not dissing LEO's as a group here, I have tons of respect for the job they do (besides the fact that a lot of them are fellow veterans).but man, some of them really need to read up on their weapons laws. Granted, the law is complex and weapons laws are no exception.but 'an illegal laser aiming device?' Come on.how can you enforce the law if you don't know it? I'm going to give LEO's the benefit of the doubt and assume it's a small minority that don't have their weapons laws straight. Those guys need to get with the program. I spent hours reading up on the law to make sure my AR build was legit, as I'm sure most of us have, and I hate to think that I might get arrested for it at the range.
Yes, I know all such cases have been cleared up and dropped. But I've never been arrested and don't look forward to it.
BUT then again.if DEA is raiding a house, there's a pretty fair chance that someone within it is a felon. And technically, of course, any firearm in the possession of a felon is 'illegal.' I just imagine how it really went down. DEA: Yeah we found this weapon. Spike producers: Just a weapon? DEA: Yeah, its just an off the shelf plastic gun. Spike producers: Well that doesnt sound suspenceful.
We need something with more pizzaz. Cant you say WMD? DEA: Well I dunno, its just a gun. Spike producers: You know if its not scary enough, people will lose interest and your show may get cancelled. DEA: Oh yeah, it was totally this illegal foriengn weapon thats really a full auto shark with a laser on its fricken head. Highly illegal and is used to kill third graders. I think it was a keltec carbine.
Then this guy starts goin' off on the bullhorn 'we are the dea' and 'we are the police' kinda. Disturbing.On another forum I mentioned seeing staged propaganda pictures in los angeles papers displaying 'the illegal weapons' seized by lapd but to my experienced eyes there wasn't a single weapon shown that was illegal just bolt action rifles,pump shotguns,some single shot 22's but none were sawed off or altered.A le member took exception but I mentioned i was also retired from le and the weapons in and of themselves weren't illegal,maybe the jerks in possession weren't allowed to have them but that's another circumstance.
I like the dea show too, but a lot of things irk me pretty badly. Like that guy on the bullhorn after 'confiscating this mac 10.' First they show him deploying (unfolding) the keltec. Then he's like pointing around the room.
Then it cuts to him making an. out of himself by pointing the bullhorn at spectators saying, NO NEED TO FEAR, WE ARE THE POLICE. WE ARE THE DEA COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP (they already arrested the guy inside.).
This on top of the fact that they got all their facts so wrong. I understand, lying to suspects is a part of their job, they need to make these criminals sweat, flip them and go after bigger fish with the new bait. Some of the other stuff is just unprofessional and quite frankly inexcusable.
It's one thing to make yourself out to be a local hero for fighting crime and drugs, but what on earth would possess you to make an. out of youself like that?
That essentially undoes all the hero work becuase people view law enforcement as.s. I saw that show, too. When I told my wife: 'That's not a Mac-10, it's a Kel-Tec Sub 2000!' She just rolled her eyes. Anyone see tonight's 11.00 O'Clock news about the 3 acre weed farm in Rowland Heights? The police found 3 air rifles amongst the weed crop.

The reporter said it was a pellet gun which COULD be converted to fire.22 ammo! Emphasis on the word 'could'. Just like you COULD build an '82 Buick Skylark to run 200mph, if you had the equipment and expertise, but most people don't. Why must the news try to make a pellet gun more than it actually is? It's a good thing none of the pellet guns had a pistol grip.:eek. I watched that terrible episode too.
I laughed pretty hard when the guy is like OMG a MAC 10 your going to jail for 10 years buddy. That's the first MAC 10 I've seen that looked like a keltec. The sad part is most of the drug dealers are so dumb the cops just spew a bunch of bs and they believe them and end up incriminating themselves. The other part that had me going wtf is when the cops are just pulling people over who are leaving this suspected deli store and trying to find someone who bought drugs. This one poor soul gets pulled over and the cops spill his container of ribs all over the innocent guys car seats and then start laughing about it.
