Apple Updates Iwork Suite For Mac
IWork 09 is Apple's competitor to Microsoft Office. It includes word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentation applications in one collection of integrated tools. IWork 09 is compatible with Office in that files from one can be opened and updated with the other, but there's a difference in complexity between the two products. IWork 09 is much simpler system to than Office, which may be an advantage for some and a drawback for others. All the component parts of iWork 09 have been designed to be simple to use (or at least simpler than Office). There are a number of nice features that users will like and that are easier to access and deploy than the equivalent in Office, but there are also some more-advanced features that are missing.

Pages is the word-processing component and it provides enough power to satisfy most people, even to the point of being able to provide publication-ready content. Keynote is the presentation tool, with a lot of templates, transitions, and effects available. Numbers is the spreadsheet tool, with many one-click features for charts and tables. There is an iOS version of iWork 09, so you can use it on any Apple device.
IWork 09 is a mixed bag for us. The latest version is no longer new, and there has been no sign of updates. With the still-growing popularity of Office for the Mac, the main draw of iWork 09 is its lower price (although that advantage has disappeared almost completely lately due to aggressive marketing) and simpler interfaces that Mac users will be familiar with.
Despite continued rumors of iWork's demise, Apple does seem to be continuing to offer it. All in all, whether Office or iWork 09 is the right tool for you depends on whether you want fast food or a restaurant meal. IWork, Apple's productivity suite, is the easiest way to create great-looking documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Writing and page layout are easy using Pages. Numbers gives you simple ways to make sense of your data. New cinematic animations, transitions, and effects in Keynote will keep your audience captivated.
And iWork is compatible with Microsoft Office, so sharing your work is even easier. With Pages, Numbers, and Keynote for iCloud, you and your team can access and edit all your documents in a Mac or PC web browser. Just sign in to iCloud.com, open the web app, and start working. Whether your collaborators are across town or on the other side of the world, it's amazingly productive. Apple has today updated its Pages, Keynote, and Numbers apps for iOS and Mac, bringing with them a number of significant accessibility improvements for VoiceOver users. In Pages, Numbers and Keynote, VoiceOver users can now read relevant text formatting details including font name and font size while editing. It is now much easier for VoiceOver users to add, remove, rearrange rows, columns, add and review comments, edit chart data and chart elements, get table header information, and more.
In Keynote, VoiceOver users can now also edit and read presenter notes. Hello all, I just updated pages and I must say it works very nice. The only issue I have is that making folders directly in pages is not that useable, but it can be done in icloud drive via the app, so this is not a big issue to me.To the comment made by Seanoevil, I agree with you.
But would like to add a thought, maybe many users are like me, I don't visit applevis everyday and I check for updates manually and don't always install them right away. And I don't post all that much. But generally speaking, I see this behavior by people ( not just blind, but sighted volks as well) all the time, It seems easy to complain and point out faults, but hard to praise and point out strengths. Constructive criticism is good and helps things to be corrected, but a little 'hey good job' keeps things moving. So thanks apple for doing what you do for us and thanks to the applevis team for all their hard work and thanks to the applevis community for all their thoughts and experiences with idevices. Have a nice day and take care, Fritz.

I just installed all 3 of these updates on my MBA, and I also just upgraded to El Capitan. I have not yet done anything in Keynote or Numbers, but I downloaded something for my job a couple days ago. It opened in Pages, and everything worked nicely. I think I'm going to try out the update to Numbers this week, both for my own sake and to help out a sister. She has a volunteer job and also works from home, and her coworkers send her stuff using Microsoft Excel.

But this stuff also works in Numbers. I haven't done anything in either Powerpoint or Keynote but perhaps that'll change one of these years. I must admit I'm not a fan of whiners and complainers, but I think AppleVis is an excellent website just the same. In addition, three cheers for Apple!. or to post comments #5 This is great!
